A pop-up shop was held on Saturday 30th July at Crofthead Community Centre in Livingston. This event was open to Ukrainian refugees from West Lothian and Edinburgh giving them the opportunity to stock up on clothes, shoes, toys, toiletries, and other essentials. StartScotland were also on hand to provide attendees with support on gaining suitable employment.
The event, organised by Charis Cetnarskyj (supported by Crofthead Management Committee), followed the success of a previous pop-up shop that took place on Sunday 29th May where around 60-70 families got together to meet fellow refugees and stock up on essential items for free.
In support of this event, CSI supplied a Dexion Hi280 shelving units free of charge to help the volunteers store and display the bags upon bags of items donated by the generous people of West Lothian. Charis Cetnarskyj says “having the shelves implemented has allowed us to maximise space to create a stockroom with clothing organised into gender/age which will make the shopping experience much easier for our Ukrainian guests”.
Following on from this event, Crofthead Community Centre are also trying to raise £3,000 to provide ongoing day-to-day support to refugees which includes supplying toiletries, nappies, food, access to IT equipment and supporting their mental health and well-being.
