BASF
CSI help BASF to increase their production capabilities with design and installation of customised storage system.
The Client
BASF is the world’s foremost chemical company and currently employs nearly 2000 people in the UK and Ireland. With a client portfolio that takes in the oil and gas, chemical, plastics, performance products and agricultural sectors, they offer intelligent system solutions and sophisticated products to a variety of industries while also investing hugely in research and development.
The Challenge
BASF had recently taken over an older building as a temporary measure while they were awaiting the construction of a new purpose built facility. They required the installation of a storage system that would maximise the storage capabilities of the temporary facility while allowing them to continue their operations. Having forged a successful relationship with the architect working with BASF on their building projects, CSI was able to secure this project in a competitive situation.
The Solution
Having reviewed the architect’s plans and conducted a detailed site survey, CSI provided BASF with CAD drawings of two bespoke design proposals allowing them to choose which storage solution they thought was best.
A system that provided storage for 78 intermediate bulk containers, each weighing 1000kg was supplied and installed. Dexion P90 standard wide aisle pallet racking was chosen for its high load capabilities, absence of restrictions in layout and quick and easy pallet accessibility. As the facility ran 24 hours a day the CSI team worked with the client to ensure there was minimal disruption to their warehouse operations during the installation process. Most of the installation therefore took place at night, as it was quieter.
Completely modular, the system installed could be easily adapted to any future storage requirements and could also be quickly deconstructed and reused in another facility if needed. The installation was designed and built according to SEMA codes of practice to ensure safety during construction and after.
Project Details
- Client : BASF
- Location : Aberdeen
- Sector : Chemicals
- Project Value : £12,000
- Scope of Works : Full design, supply and installation of Dexion P90 Standard Wide Aisle Pallet Racking System.
The Results
Within a tight schedule and with minimal disruption to their warehouse operations, CSI was able to provide BASF with a bespoke storage solution that exactly matched their requirements. The finished installation allowed them to increase their production by permitting more fluid to be stored in their intermediate bulk containers due to the high load capacity of the racking.
