CSI help National Oilwell Varco to expand with new storage system for their workshop and stores area.

The Client

Founded in 1841, National Oilwell Varco (NOV) are now recognised worldwide as leaders in the field of oil and gas services. Serving both the onshore and offshore industries, NOV provide tailored solutions that meet the highest quality, productivity and environmental standards of the energy industry.

The Challenge

NOV were expanding and wanted to redevelop their entire office and workshop areas within their facility. An increase in their storage capacity was required to help them take on the extra workload and store the additional equipment for their workshop and stores areas. As leading providers of storage solutions, CSI were invited to take on this project by Space Solutions, who were the main contractor for the job.

The Solution

CSI worked with the architects who were designing the refurbishment of the facility to ensure the final designed storage system would match the rest of the upgrade. Once building specifications had been acquired, a detailed site survey and stock audit were carried out to understand the exact storage requirements and workflow methods of NOV. CAD drawings of a proposed layout of a bespoke storage system were then provided for NOV’s review.

The proposed system used Dexion Standard Hi280 shelving due to its durability, adaptability and the full range of accessories available. In total, 30 bays of shelving were installed, with a loading capacity of 150kg per shelf and 900kg per bay. Steel cladding was fixed at the back and sides of the shelving to provide extra security and to stop materials from falling out of the system. The shelving was also altered on site to fit the height specifications of the building – this was done by cutting the frames.
