SengS Subsea Engineering
CSI fit-out new premises for growing engineering firm SengS Subsea Engineering.
The Client
SengS Subsea Engineering Solutions provide diverse and varied services to the oil and gas industry and the emerging renewable energy sector including engineering design, consultancy, repair and refurbishment, testing and flushing and subsea tooling. Utilizing 40 years experience in the oil and gas, marine and aeronautical industries they currently assist industry leaders accomplish their project aims through tailor made solutions.
The Challenge
SengS were expanding their business by moving to a new facility and required the design and installation of an engineering workshop and increased storage capabilities. The new workshop would be used to supply repair, refurbishment, testing and flushing services for topside subsea applications. This made it essential that the engineering workshop provided would be efficient, adaptable and able to withstand the heavy duty requirements of these processes. CSI successfully tendered for the project after being invited to quote against four other competitors.
The Solution
Working with the team at SengS from the beginning, CSI developed a solution that would effectively maximise the space in the new facility as well as benefit their workflow efficiency. Following a detailed site survey, several plans and suggestions were produced and discussed until a layout and product package that satisfied SengS precise requirements was found. This involved the installation of a mezzanine floor, pallet racking and shelving, and a complete engineering workshop fit-out, a full turnkey project.
To match the heavy duty, workflow and adaptability requirements of the proposed workshop, Bott cubio cabinets and workbenches were chosen to be installed. These were customised in terms of dimensions, loading capacity and storage capabilities to suit SengS’s exact workplace needs. Black rubber mats were fixed to all exposed worktops to prevent tools rolling off and reduce noise levels, providing security and a softer base for more delicate operations. Castor wheels were fitted to some of the cabinets and workbenches to offer mobility and flexibility in the workshop increasing efficiency. Drawer trigger interlocks to prevent accidental opening and drawer blocking mechanisms allowed this mobility to be achieved without compromising safety or security. Mobile louvre panel trolleys enabled SengS’s engineers to quickly and easily transport and locate parts in the facility.
All of the Bott equipment supplied featured a ten year guarantee as standard, and could be easily adjusted to evolve with any future changes in SengS’s business needs, providing a long lasting workshop solution.
To increase SengS’s storage capabilities, Dexion P90 Silverline pallet racking and Longspan shelving were installed. Designed to SengS’s unique storage needs, while maximising the available space, the racking allowed for the bulk storage of larger and heavier goods, while the Longspan shelving provided space for smaller materials. Robust and modular, the Dexion racking and shelving, like the Bott engineering workshop equipment, could be relied upon to stand the test of time, and be easily added to or modified to suit SengS’s changing storage needs.
Above the workshop, a mezzanine floor provided additional, easily accessible storage area for the client’s bulky items. For added safety, a pallet gate was fitted in the mezzanine.
